XD School
The Plan
The core curriculum was designed to provide a strong foundation in essential UX skills in a short amount of time. I inherited the lessons from the previous year, and each were refined, enhanced and modernized. Additionally, I introduced many new modules to keep the program relevant and impactful.
Together with a small panel of staff, we meticulously reviewed hundreds of applications to select our students. After graduating, many went on to become designers at top companies including Apple, Airbnb, Rivian, Meta, and Squarespace.
Weekly Design Challenges reinforced lecture materials with applied problem-solving, hands-on exploration of election-related concepts. Each challenge deepened understanding through real-world design constraints and iterative thinking.
I added several curriculum blocks including software prototyping, programing with Javascript, 3D printing and physical computing.
Real-world Projects
For my second year leading XD School, I arranged for the final projects to take place with real world clients. I felt that in order properly know what it's like to work at Huge or any other agency, the projects—and clients—should be real. The students would likely agree that they learned the most in those final weeks of school.
